Philippe Starck is the French product designer that came up with the classic lemon squeezer and Voxan Café Racer Super Naked, and who once famously declared that “design is dead” and everything he had designed previously was “unnecessary”.
In this Ted talk, Philippe fantasises about the future of humanity and the place within that future that design will fall. For website designers and creators, we have to be constantly evolving and doing the best we can to produce design that is useful and functional. That what we are doing sits within a broader scope of humanity is both exciting and invigorating.
Philippe can be hard to follow at times and the lack of slides is a clever tactic to ensure that you are paying attention to him, but he presents some interesting philosophies and is a captivating speaker.
